Timlärare, Associate professor
I graduated as a physiotherapist in 1971 at Lund University, received my PhD in 2002 and became Associate Professor in 2012. My thesis included identification of patients at risk of arm lymphedema and factors associated with development of lymphedema following breast cancer treatment. It also included evaluation of effects of lymphedema treatments and the patient’s experiences of the problem.
My research is strongly focused on clinical issues concerning lymphedema in the upper and lower limbs, mostly due to cancer treatment, and results from studies implemented through patient education, national care guidelines, as well as in education of physiotherapist and nurses.
The research program include three alignments: early diagnosis, exercise and quality of life; as well as a focus on evaluation of measurements, the effect of interventions, and qualitative studies. Several studies have been or are in international cooperation.
I am the primary supervisor for PhD student Pia Klernäs in her project of lymphedema and quality of life, assisted by social counsellor Aina Johnsson, PhD, Karolinska Institutet, Solna.
I also am the primary supervisor for PhD student Charlotta Jönsson in her project of lymphedema and gynecological cancer treatment, assisted by oncologist Maria Bjurberg, PhD, Lund University.
