Research

Katharina B. Kuentzel is a postdoctoral fellow in “Metabolic disorders and liver disease” at the Department of Clinical Sciences in Malmö and joined the group of Philipp Kaldis in October 2022. Katharina is investigating the metabolic interorgan crosstalk and how liver remodeling is affected by type 2 diabetes.

As a life scientist she was previously involved in a variety of projects on inflammatory diseases in pregnancy during her PhD thesis. For the past 4 years, she has been working in the field of lipid and energy metabolism with a focus on defective lipolysis in the mouse placenta and the developing fetus at the Medical University of Graz (Austria). Using mutant mouse models, she additionally investigated the underlying mechanisms of impaired lipid hydrolysis in various tissues including, macrophages, adipose tissue, liver, platelets, and the small intestine.
