Personal profile

Research

I am a practising architect and illustrator. My focus as an architect is eco-friendly housing and sustainable urban planning. Currently, I am involved in research addressing light and health, targeting older adults living in ordinary housing. My general research interest is the interaction between people and their environment, for example, people's experiences and reasons for their actions.

In May 2020, I completed my doctorate in environmental psychology. The interdisciplinary field of environmental psychology studies the interplay between individuals and the built and natural environment. Human behaviour influences the environment, and the environment affects human behaviour and wellbeing. My research topic concerns how wellbeing is related to light-dark cycles and sleep-wake patterns.

The thesis project aimed to increase understanding of how residents use their lighting from natural and fabricated light sources, what they want from it, and when they do not want it. Another aim was to evaluate a personalised home lighting system in terms of comfort and intention to use the system.
