Personal profile

My research lies primarily in the intersection between immigrant integration and demography, with focuses on labor market integration in general, and its impact on demographic behavior in particular. To this end, interest has been both on the economic and demographic integration of immigrants themselves, as well as the pathways through which the children of immigrants integrate into the host society. Parallel with these studies, I have become increasingly interested in the economic impacts of population ageing, and potential policy answers to the challenges caused by an ageing population.

I am currently involved in teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels at the Department of Economic History. I also teach courses at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm University, University of Rome la Sapienza, and am involved in a course for specialist doctors at Region Jönköping. Additionally, I am dean of the Research School in Economic Demography at the Centre for Economic Demography.

I am a past president of the Swedish Demographic Association and the Nordic Demographic Association, and served as Dean of the European Doctoral School of Demography 2009–2011. I currently serve the profession in a number of ways. I am a member of: the Council of Advisors for Population Europe, the Scientific Board for the European Doctoral School of Demography, the Scientific Advisory Board of the Division of Ageing and Scocial Change, Linköping University. I represent the Swedish Research Council on the MONA reference group at Statistics Sweden.
