Artistic work

Lars Andersson is director of education and associate professor at Malmoe Academy of music, Lund University since 2001.  He has been co-chair for the international network U21 Deans of Education group, chair of the European Pop and Jazz Platform (AEC) and he´s been involved extensively in international collaboration for the past 20 years. In 2024 he was appointed Chair of the Advisory Board for the center of excellence, CreaTeMe, at the University of Agder, Norway.

His areas of expertise is new pedagogical methods within the arts and it includes coaching, motivation and deep learning. As a director he has been deeply engaged in developing organization in education and the leadership role at the University. He has developed structures for professional development (PD) for university teachers including collegial enhancement, pedagogical leadership and coaching for enhanced learning. He has been pushing gender and inclusive  perspectives in Higher Education and has given speeches at international conferences and arranging a international conference on gender equity with other Nordic partner Universities.

He has been a visiting professor at Universities all over Europe, Asia and the US. As an  associate professor at Malmoe Academy of Music he teaches pedagogy, teachingmethods, coaching, jazzdrums and ensemble.

 

Some international work as a leader

  • 2024 Chair of the Advisory Board for the center of excellence, CreaTeMe, at the University of Agder, Norway.
  • Gender perspectives in Higher Education. Founder of a 3-year Nordic cooperation project “Genus” that dealt with the gender inbalance in Higher Music Ed.(2019-2022) https://www.conferencegenus.com
  • AEC Pop / Jazz Platform: Chair of the PJP network in Europe (2017-2020) and a member of the network working group since 2014. Masterclass in "Coaching Jazz Ensemble" at the first AEC Pop / Jazz Platform Conference in Copenhagen
  • International Teacher Exchange / Erasmus: During 2011 I was a guest teacher at Conservatory Liceu in Barcelona and the Conservatory of Vienna where I gave master classes in jazz ensembles and drums.
  • Creativity-transcending boundaries in higher music education, around creativity in the new music teacher education. It is a subject didactic research project in the field of creativity in collaboration with Cambridge University and the University of Arts in London (2010)
  • IAJE: (International Association of Jazz Education) 2004-2009 Representing the Music School at the annual IAJE conferences.
  • Nordpuls: 2005-2007 member of Nordpuls steering group, a network of institutions in the Nordic countries with jazz and pop / rock programs. 2005-2010 Music School's representative at the international networking meetings.
  • Quality assurance in higher education: 2008 and 2011, Presented the music teacher education evaluation and quality assurance model at two international conferences in Helsinki and Oslo on Quality Assurance.
  • From 2004 to 2009 he´s been involved in a project,supported by the swedish government, developing a jazzeducation curriculum i Hanoi , Vietnam.
  • From 2011-2017 he was responsible for an international exchange project, Linneaus-Palme, together with the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM).
  • U21 / AERA: Since 2011 member of the "Deans of Education" group within the international network U21 who meet annually at the world's largest educational science conference AERA (American Educational Research Association). Co-Chair 2017-2024.
  • Lars has been involved in the design of several teacher education reforms since 2001 and included with and designed systems for evaluation and quality assurance used in today's teacher training. He has also written several sub-courses and syllabi in the new subject teacher education that started in 2011.

 

Some words of his work in Music Performance

As a professional jazz drummer he has played at international and national jazz festivals and clubs all over Europe since the 90´s. Lars has recorded over 10 albums as a leader and sideman and his work is also represented on TV and Radio broacasts. He has worked with international and national jazzperformers such as Vincent Herring, Joey Calderazzo, Mark Murphy, Stacey Kent, Esbjörn Svensson, Putte Wickman, Victoria Tolstoy, Jan Lundgren, Nils Landgren, Monica Zetterlund, Georgie Fame among others.

 

He has published, Expand your Rhythmic Freedom, a book and Play -Along for all instrumentalists and vocalists to help develop their rhythmic skills.
