Research

Dr Laura Castilla-Vallmanya is a postdoctoral researcher in the Molecular Neurogenetics group led by Prof. Johan Jakosson. She is also the Project manager for Team Jakobsson within the Advancing Science Across Parkinson's (ASAP) international network.

Originally from Spain, she was awarded her Bachelor's degree on Biomedical Sciences and Master's degree on Genetics and Genomics by University of Barcelona (Spain). She obtained her PhD in Genetics for her work in the Human Molecular Genetic group at the Department of Genetics, microbiology and statistics, University of Barcelona (Spain). Her PhD work was focused on advancing the diagnosis of ultra-rare neurodevelopmental disorders by combining next generation sequecing (NGS) techniques and in vitro funtional studies.

Currently, her research is focused on investigating the role of transposable elements (TEs) and their regulators in neurodevelopmental disorders using advanced 2D and 3D in vitro iPSC-based cell models, CRISPR methods and NGS.
