Personal profile
Research
Leif Sörnmo received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Lund University, Lund, Sweden, in 1984, respectively. Since 2000, he has been Professor and headed the Biomedical Signal Processing Group at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Lund University. Since 2023, he is professor emeritus. His research interests include statistical signal processing, modeling of biomedical signals, methods for analysis of atrial fibrillation, and multimodal signal processing in hemodialysis.
He was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa at Zaragoza University, Spain, in 2014 and Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania in 2018.
Prof. Sörnmo is Life Fellow of IEEE, International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering, European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering, and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering. He was Associate Editor of Computers in Biomedical Research (1997–2000), IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering (2001–2023), Medical and Biological Engineering & Computing (2013–2020), and is on the editorial board of Journal of Electrocardiology. He was one of the founders and the first director of the undergraduate and graduate program in biomedical engineering at Lund University. He served on the Board of Directors of Computing in Cardiology (2008–2017).
