My Ph.D project focuses on developing a full phosphorus (P) cycle for forest ecosystems and integrating it into an existing dynamic ecosystem model named ForSAFE. The thesis will be based on a modelling work, in turn based on the collection and synthesis of existing knowledge about the environmental processes controlling phosphorous bioavailability. The key processes studied are adsorption/desorption and mineralization/immobilization. The future model (including the P cycle) will be used to study the effects of different environmental and land use scenarios on the long-term sustainability of forest ecosystems, particularly in view of forest management practices.
