Research
My research focuses on two different areas.
- One part of my research focus on regional development in non-core regions, i.e., places in the periphery and places that are sometimes regarded as being 'left behind'. My PhD project (defended in 2023) studied agency in three old industrial regions in Sweden, Borås, Kiruna and Olofström. The research traced development in the cases over 30-40 years identified the development of new growth paths, who initiated them, when, how and with whom. The PhD project was a part of the research projects Agents of Change in Old Indistrial Regions in Europe (ACORE) and Regional growth against all odds (Regrow).
- A new part of my research focuses on transitions from traditional global value chains into more sustainable ones. This is done together with colleagues within the project Circular Economy: Multi-level value chain and policy dynamics for accelerating sustainability transformations.
Teaching
I have been teaching at the Department of Human Geography since 2009. My teaching focuses on:
- Spatial analysis using GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
- Cartography
- Economic Geography, mainly focusing on regional development in non-core regions
- Methods, mainly qualitative
In addition, I am programme director for the new master programme in Innovation and Societal change which will start in autumn 2026.
I am a member of the Teaching Academy of the Faculty of Social Sciences as a Qualified Teaching Practitioner (QTP).
