Personal profile

Research

My research is in the field of socio-economic sustainable development. I am examining the drivers and implications of labour-intensive industrialisation in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on the case of Mauritius's garment sector since 1968. Using mixed methods, I am interested in the role it has played in the process of structural transformation and development, as well as its impacts on labour rights, agency, and gender relations in the country. In doing so, I am linking my research to the Sustainable Development Goals on gender equality, and decent work and economic growth.

Apart from being a PhD candidate at the Department of Economic History since January 2020, I am also part of Lund University's interdisciplinary Agenda 2030 graduate school. My project is under the supervision of Associate Professor Ellen Hillbom and Professor Cristina Chaminade.

Previously I have done field research in Ethiopia on women's employment in the export-oriented garment industry.

Teaching

I am currently teaching an Undergraduate course on Sustainable Development (Hållbar utveckling: Debatt, teori, empiri) and a Master course on field work.

Professional work

In 2019, I oversaw and coordinated phase 2 of the Green Assets Wallet project, the first blockchain platform for validating green bonds and reporting on green impact. I am still involved as an Academic Affiliate of Stockholm Green Digital Finance, a not-for-profit that aims to accelerate investments to effectively deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals. Prior, I worked as a Sustainability Consultant for EY. Between 2015 and 2018, I held six-month internships at the UNDP in Ethiopia, Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm and the Embassy of Sweden in Rwanda.
