Research

In 2015 I successfully defended my doctoral thesis in civil procedural law on the dissertation ”Avtal om rätten till domstolsprövning” (Contracts Regarding Access to Court). In my dissertation, I investigate to what extent private actors may, with binding effect, enter into agreements that have procedural consequences, i.e. litigation agreements. This includes agreements in which the parties completely refrain from the right to a court trial in its entirety and agreement where the parties refrain from certain parts of that right. An agreement that refers disputes to arbitration would be the obvious example in the first category and an agreement regarding allowed evidence (e.g. only written evidence) could be an example of the latter. In my dissertation I used article 6(1) ECHR as a benchmark in relation to which I conducted my investigation. Ever since I have been particularly interested in civil procedural issues both in relation to traditional court procedures and in relation to different alternative dispute resolution systems. Besides my strong foothold in civil procedure law I’m also interested in civil law and in particular issues that occur in the intersection between procedural law and civil law.

Teaching

I have a broad interest in education and extensive teaching experience. I teach both undergraduates and post-graduate students on basic and advanced levels. My teaching is mainly different parts of civil- and procedural law.

Outreach

I think that outreach is an important part of University life and I like to encourage collaborations with external actors, representing both public authorities and private companies. On several occasions, I have participated as speaker at law firms and public institutions and I appreciate the possibility to discuss and test my research ideas in relation to actors that actually apply the law. This provides me with a possibility to get continuous reality checks. I also like to collaborate with practitioners in my teaching.

I am involved and participate in numerous networks. I am a chairperson in Skiljedomsföreningen i södra Sverige [South Swedish Arbitration Association]. Furthermore, I am a member of IFFR (Ideell förening fristående till institutet för företagsrekonstruktion [an association with a special interest in insolvency law and “company reconstruction”]), SWAN (Swedish Women Arbitration Network) and Nordiska föreningen för processrätt [Nordic Group in Procedural Law]. I also take an active part in the formation of a business law center at Lund University (ACLU).
