Personal profile

My research is generally focused on identifying contributing causes to type 2 diabetes and diabetic complications in clinical trials. I am particularly interested in studying vulnerable groups, including immigrants from non-Western countries. I have been PI for the MEDIM study since 2008, which so far consists of a cohort study with 2200 participants and a culturally adapted intervention study with 100 participants and an experimental metabolic study with 40 participants. See a more detailed description of MEDIM's output under Projects and Dissertations.

I am also interested in clinical trials and have been PI for the SMARTEST clinical trial since 2019 in Region Skåne. This nationwide study is sponsored by Uppsala University. The study seeks to answer the question of whether SGLT2 inhibitors to a greater extent than metformin protect against the onset of diabetic complications, in people who have recently developed type 2 diabetes.

Further I am PI for a project within COVERS at Lund University, studying attitudes towards participating in a vaccination program as part of an international collaboration with Paris Saclay University in Paris within EUGLOH (The European Universities Alliance for Global Health).
