Research

My research focuses on Huntington´s disease and peripheral disease manifestations, how these affects brain pathology, how these could translate into biomarker possibilities and how these could potentially lead to therapeutic avenues.

The neurodegenerative disease, Huntington’s disease, is caused by a mutation in the gene that codes for the protein huntingtin. Huntingtin is expressed throughout the whole body.

My overarching hypothesis is that effects of mutant huntingtin within peripheral cells and tissue, mirror neuronal pathology and therefore peripheral manifestations can be a tool to model disease. We aim to identify disease related dysfunction in Huntington´s disease in order to find biomarkers of patholgogical processes and new therapeutic strategies.
