As researcher, I study Classical societies in the Mediterranean through a combination of historical and archaeological research and computing methodologies and applications, based on my mixed education as historian, archaeologist and computer scientist. This diverse background has allowed me to explore issues such as the cultural changes associated to the Roman conquest of Baetica and the territorial organisation of coastal areas in the Mediterranean.

Amongst my main achievements in research is the identification of locations associated to the signalling system for the navigation on the River Tiber between Portus, Ostia and Rome through means of topographic modelling and spatial analysis, and the generation of new interpretations about the Romanisation of Baetica by exploring the changes in its territories and landscapes. I have also led the creation of several data resources for archaeological research, such as the ARCA database, an online database storing information of c. 2300 sites in Southern Spain. 

I am currently working on the project 'Beyond ports: Movement and connectivity in the Roman Mediterranean', funded by the Vetenskapsrådet (Swedish Research Council), at the Lund University (Sweden).

I am Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and have taught in several undergraduate and postgraduate modules and courses on Classical Archaeology, Landscape Archaeology and Computing Applications in Archaeology at the University of Durham, the University of Southampton (United Kingdom), the Pablo de Olavide University of Seville (Spain), the Philipps-University of Marburg (Germany) and Lund University between 2012 and 2025.
