Personal profile

Research

My research considers visual culture in medieval and early modern Europe. Currently, I am PI of the project Portrait of the Writer as a WomanImages of Female Literary Authority in the Renaissance (2026–2029). In previous projects I have explored the meaning of site, architecture and space in relation to truth and knowledge in medieval Christian imagination (The Locus of Truth: Birgitta of Sweden and the Journey to Jerusalem, 2017–2019) and the visual rhetorical strategies in the 14th- and 15th-century manuscripts containing the writings of Catherine of Siena and Birgitta of Sweden (2016–2017). My doctoral dissertation, The Visions of St. Birgitta: A Study of the Making and Reception of Images in the Later Middle Ages (University of Oslo, 2015), explores the phenomenon of visions and their female recipients within different late medieval discourses.

My research has been supported by grants from the Swedish and Norwegian Research Councils (VR, NFR), the European Commission Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ), and the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities.
