Personal profile

Research

My research is focused on the development, evaluation and application of advanced regional and global climate and Earth System models, based on the scientific understanding of the climate system.

Over the past 15 years, I have coordinated three large national research programmes that have engaged several university teams and contributed to a long term legacy for climate modelling in Sweden, and its international contributions. I have also served as an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Author, been a member in Sweden’s climate negotiation delegation to the UNFCCC since 2000, and contributed in various scientific advisory boards in Sweden and elsewhere, as well as presented climate research to audiences, including government agencies, enterprises,  organisations, schools and the general public.

My early scientific research focused on understanding stratospheric ozone depletion, and especially in the Arctic region. I worked with scientific measurements in northern Finland and Spitsbergen, data analysis and numerical modelling of the global middle atmosphere (the atmosphere between 10 and 80 km altitude), in collaboration with a number of international research groups.

In addition to being a professor in Climatology at Lund University, I am Associated Professor (docent) in Meteorology at University of Helsinki, Finland and also Climate Advisor at the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute.
