Personal profile

Research

I am a visiting Researcher at the Department of Economic History at Lund University, Sweden and an Assistant Professor in Economics at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.

I work on applied economics, with a particular focus on economic history, international economics, and political economy. My research at Lund University concentrates on the evolution of fiscal capacity in Africa over the past 125 years. My past work has focussed on separatism in the former Soviet Union, and on the relationship between globalisation and the growth of microfinance in 19th century Prussia.

In addition, I am currently writing a monograph on the intellectual history of economic nationalism.
