Mats Arvidson (b. 1973)

PhD, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer (Lund, Brisbane, Gothenburg, Lund)

I am a senior lecturer in intermedial studies – a subject that I have been active in more or less since its inception around 2002–2003. This is a multifaceted field that today focuses on the modalities of the body in the encounter with an increasingly complex world consisting of constructed media boundaries.

I defended my thesis in musicology 2007, but have in reality never worked as a musicologist. At the time of writing (June 2025), I am sketching out a project entitled The transboundary body. The starting point is the French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy's book L'Intrus (The Intruder, 2024), which has also been adapted into a film. A central theme that I work on is the concept intermedial adoption rather than adaptation. I am also in the final stages of a book titled The Deceptive Cadence as a Metaphor for Life: Listening with Care through a Crisis Situation, which will be published at Cambride Scholars Publishing (forthcoming).

In addition to my research, I teach and supervise students in different subjects. My teaching experience is broad and multifaceted. I teach and have taught within the following subjects (in parenthesis exemplification):
