Current Research

The anthology Social and Legal Norms.Towards a Socio-legal Understanding of Normativity has just been released, reflecting Matthias Baier's personal interest in norms and rules. The book raises questions about what makes norms binding and why people follow norms, but also summarizes well a theme which has been in focus at The Sociology of Law Department for the past 10 years.

Currently a study is also being launched together with a research institute in Colombia concerning citizens' normative beliefs. The aim is to examine norms in general to give an idea of 'the general norm consciousness', a knowledge that is missing today. Such knowledge is important in order to understand if and how collective behavior can change.

Matthias Baier is also involved in a research project with Marja Åkerström concerning equity issues in new media.
