Mental health problems in children and adolescents are among the leading causes of reduced functioning in everyday life. Max Thorsson, PhD, is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund University, within Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the research environment Innovations in Pediatric Mental Health. He is also a licensed physiotherapist.
His research develops digital methods to study behaviour in situations relevant to everyday functioning, with a focus on movement, social interaction in children and adolescents. The work combines experimental design, signal processing, and machine learning to analyse behavioural patterns and identify mechanisms underlying mental health.
As a postdoctoral researcher, he works with statistical prediction modelling in longitudinal studies of child development, including the project IRMA – Identifying Risk and Resilience for Mental Illness during Childhood and Adolescence. He completed his PhD at Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre, University of Gothenburg, where he developed new methods to measure social and motor coordination.
