Research

Mehreen is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She completed her M.B.,B.S from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Pakistan, and has worked clinically at Skåne University Hospital, Sweden since 2013. Her Ph.D, from Lund University (2019), focused on the role of umbilical cord blood sampling in predicting neurodevelopmental handicap in infants later on in life. Currently, she is a Paul Farmer Research Fellow at the Program of Global Surgery and Social Change, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. Here research interests revolve around maternal-fetal medicine and global surgery. Specific research areas include: analysis, intrepretation and the use of umbilical cord blood gases to predict adverse infant outcomes; pathophysiology and the role of COVID-19 in perinatal outcomes; access to safe surgery with focus on Cesarean sections in LMICs; role of climate change and its effect of maternal child outcomes; wireless vital signs monitoring post-partum; socio-economic determinants of health; quality of maternal healthcare services; maternal health advocacy and strengthening of Obstetric and Gynecological healthcare systems in low resource settings.
