Personal profile

Research

My research is mainly focused on Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other neurodegenerative diseases, but I also study acute brain injuries, e.g., after cardiac arrest, and the neurochemistry of other aspects of the brain, including regulation of pain and sleep. I primarily use biochemical measurements, neuroimaging and cognitive testing to study disease processes in vivo in humans. My research ranges from studies of molecular mechanisms to clinical characteristics along the continuum from preclinical disease to advanced dementia. My main aims are to improve diagnostic and prognostic methods in clinical practice, improve design of clinical trials to facilitate development of novel therapies, and gain novel understanding of disease mechanisms.
