Research

I am Professor and Chair of Medical Ethics, Lund University, holding a full-time tenured post at Lund University.

I am a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities, whose board (förvaltningsutskottet) he joined in 2014.

I am an expert member of The Swedish National Council of Medical Ethics and Chairman of Swedish Research Council’s (Vetenskapsrådets) Expert Group on Ethics.

For several years I have worked with the Swedish Council of Health Technology Assessment (SBU).

I was a Visiting Scholar at Princeton University (1979-1980) and have been a Visiting Researcher at Decision Research, Eugene Oregon several times. He was Guest Professor, University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas (2005), Guest Professor, Départment de Philosophie, Université de Genève (2010), and Wagner Fellow of Philosophy of Risk, Pittsburgh University, Pittsburgh (2011-2012). He is also on the International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Charles S. Peirce Society and Chairman of the pan-European EuroHYP-1’s Ethics Commission.

Within the research programme VBE, Science and Proven Experience, Professor Sahlin works among other things on the philosophy of evidence-formation. He will also work closely with the researchers investigating some of the empirical and ethical questions outlined above.
