Nils Ryde

Professor, Excellent Teaching Practioner

Personal profile

Research

My field of research is stellar spectroscopy. My main project deals with the origin of the galactic bulge and the chemical description of the Galactic Center and its connection to the inner 3 degrees of the bulge. The methodology I am using to achieve this goal is the investigation of giant stars in the bulge at high spectral resolution in the near-IR. A red thread through my research projects have been spectroscopy at high resolution with special emphasis on the opportunities that come with cutting-edge IR spectrometers and the development of methodologies for this new research field. See also www.astro.lu.se/~ryde

Teaching

I am a member of the Pedagogical Academy at Lund University. I received the degree of Excellent Teaching Practitioner in May 2012.

I was the study advisor at the Department for Astronomy and Theoretical Physics, 2012-2021, and I am responsible for the courses ASTA03, Astronomins grunder (2009-) and ASTA34, Stellar Atmospheres and Radiation processes (2011-). I also supervise PhD-, master-, and bachelor-thesis students.
