Personal profile

Research

My research interests are broadly within areas of innovation and entrepreneurship. I am interested in process of spillovers of knowledge in science, innovation and entrpeneurship, for instance studied through mobility and migration. I am also broadly interested in questions related to academic-industry interaction. My strive in economic historic research is to understand the role and development of foundations for industrial and economic development and link this to the contemporary economy.

Methodologically, I have compiled large databases on individual levels on inventors, scientists and factory owners and adopt microeconometric techniques with an aim to causally identify relationships.

Specific projects I am currently engaged in include:

  •  Migration and innovation. Studies on Swedish returnees of the emigration to America in historical data funded by Ragnar Söderberg foundation (with K. Enflo, B. Eriksson and E. Prawitz)
  •  Creative destruction and innovation. Plant closures and innovation funded by Peter Wallenberg foundation (with O. Toivanen and A. Hyytinen)
  •  Death among R&D workers and innovation funded by Handelsbanken foundation (with O. Toivanen and T. Åstebro)
