I am interested in ecological and evolutionary issues related to host-parasite interactions, both from the perspective of the host and the pathogen. I mainly work with natural host-parasite systems, with a focus on avian malaria, using a variety of methods, ranging from single genes for species determination to different methods for whole genome and transcriptome sequencing.

My main lines of reseach:

1) I want to understand how observed genetic variation in pathogens relates to species boundaries, how variation is maintained and distributed across populations or selected for within single infections.

2)  What do gene-gene interactions look like between different hosts, parasites and vectors at different times during infection cycles and how do they affect disease outcomes.

3) By using long-term studies of wild animal populations, understand how changes in biotic and abiotic factors affect the spread, prevalence, fitness of the host and the population genetics of vector-borne diseases.
