I am interested in how people in difficult circumstances live and create meaning. This led me to investigate what it meant to be a drug-involved women in Sweden by analysing the accounts of 26 women who had, at some point in their lives, used, bought, sold, and/or shared illicit drugs in Sweden. It emerged that participants led risky and stigmatised lives, but that their involvement with drugs was also considerably meaningful. My doctoral dissertation therefore emphasised the importance of pleasure in all its incarnations as a crucial pull factor for illicit drugs.
I am currently in the process of refining a research report on the experiences of Thai women in the Nordic area together with Dr. Susanne Boethius.
