Personal profile

Research

My research focuses mainly on gender/ intersectional perspectives on right-wing populist political communication; political discourses aimed at normalizing extreme right opinions; as well as the construction and maintenance of various power hierarchies within these discourses. I examine these phenomena in a comparative perspective both in the Nordic countries, with a focus on Sweden and Finland, as well as in Central Europe, with focus on Hungary and Romania.

Research areas

  • Intersectional perspectives on politics
  • Critical masculinity studies and right-wing extremism
  • Anti-gender campaigns and retrogressive politics in Europe
  • Gender, social media, affect and (right-wing populist) politics
  • Critical qualitative methods
  • Critical data studies

Outreach

I have engaged actively and collaborated with public institutions and the civil society. I am an established researcher in the field of right-wing populism and right-wing extremism with a specific intersectional perspective, and I have participated in various panel discussions on the topic directed at the general public or to the academia in various countries across Europe (Belgium; Finland; Germany; the Netherlands; Norway; Romania; Sweden). I have collaborated with various civil society organizations such as the Swedish Women's Lobby; RFSU and MUCF in Sweden, and the Youth Academy Luckan and the Swedish-speaking newspaper Astra: samhälle, kultur, feminism in Finland. I have also written several reports for Swedish authorities (MUCF) and international organizations (International IDEA; Nordic Council / Reform), often participated in both TV, radio and print media and had an active presence in social media.
