Personal profile

Research

I am the professor of Agrarian History at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and am an affiliated associate professor at the Department of Economic History and the Center for Economic Demography. My main research area concerns the workings of the pre-industrial economy and the transition to modern economic growth. Within this I have focused particularly on the process and the consequences of the agricultural revolution of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Recently, I have received two grants broadening my research into the areas of long-term studies of inequality and of market integration, both dealing with Sweden. My work is highly empirical and, through formalized international research cooperation, comparative within a European context.

Outreach

To disseminate my research findings and to take part in the public discussion on topics related to my research I am active as well on social media as through open lectures: I have a blog in Swedish on economic history in general(minekonomiskahistoria.wordpress.com) and a twitter account @LundaSvennis where I mix personal opinions with tweets on economic history. Furthermore, I have held open lectures in Lund and other places in southern Sweden and am part of the Lund University open lectures series in cooperation with Scanian libraries, the so called Forskarturnén.
