Head of the unit for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Deparment of Clinical Sciences in Lund, Lund University. Project leader for the project: Evidence based clinical methods. In this project methods for diagnostic assessements and treatment assessments in the clinic are studied, validating the evidence base and the clinical utility of different methods. One part of the project concerns the clinical utility of different methods used in the diagnostic assessment of ADHD and in treatment evaluations.Computerised CPT-tests (Continuous Performance tests), cognitive tests and questionnaires are validated. A follow-up study has been performed evaluating outcome after three years for children and adolescents with ADHD. Assessments at baseline are compared with assessments three years later concerning cognitive function, CPT-results, symptoms of ADHD assessed by teachers and parents, emotional symptoms and comorbid diagnoses. Treatment effects are also recorded. Another part of the project concerns validating the effect of stimulation with auditory white noise and electric vestibular stimulation on working memory difficulties in children with ADHD. A third part of the project concerns validating an assessment with three different tests of cerebellar function (the conditioned corneal blink-reflex, finger-tapping and prism-glass adaptation) for children with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder in comparison with children without a diagnosis. A forth part of the project concerns validating a cognitive behavioural group treatment for adolescents with ADHD. A fifth part concerns validating the implementation of a programme for treatment of depression at different Swedish clinics for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. A sixth part concerns analysing serum collected at birth and to compare the levels of environmental toxins and D-vitamin of children with ADHD and autism spectrum disorders with the serum levels of children without a diagnosis. A seventh part concerns early identification and treatment of children with autism. Children are assessed with a newly developed observation instrument when visiting the child health centres and children with a suspicion of autism are furthter assessed at the clinics for child and adolescent psychiatry. Families with children diagnosed with autism are offered intensive behavioural treatment. The observation scale used at the child health centres has been validated by comparing results for children with an autism diagnosis, children with a diagnosis of Down's syndrome and normally developing children. The effect of an intensive behavioural treatment is validated in a follow-up study. An eight part of the study concerns the importance of difficulties with motor function and perception in neurodevelopmental disorders. Information from interviewing parents at 9 and 12 years of age in the large Swedish twin study (CATSS, Child and Adolescent Twin Study in Sweden) have been analysed validating the association of motor and perceptual dysfunction with different diagnoses. A study of the impact of sensory sensitivities and interests is planned. A ninth part concerns the importance of pre- and perinatal complications for developing ADHD and autism spectrum disorder. A register study with data from Malmö has already been analysed. A larger study is planned using data from the quality register for ADHD.
