Personal profile

Research

I am professor of digital cultures. I have worked within the cultural heritage sector as Head of Research at Sweden's National Media Archive and at the National Library of Sweden, and as a professor of media and communication studies with a focus on the digital humanities at Umea University. I am a media studies scholar with a contemporary and historical interest, mainly oriented towards digital cultural heritage and digital media history. I am in charge of two research projects: Welfare State Analytics. Text Mining and Modeling Swedish Politics, Media & Culture, 1945-1989 and Modern Times 1936 – which both use digital methods to explore historical source material in new ways. I have published in journals such as Media History, Digital Humanities Quaterly and Journal of Documentation. In 2019 MIT Press published Spotify Teardown. Inside the Black Box of Streaming Music. My latest book is the co-written From Big Bang to Big Data: A History of the Media  published by McGill-Queen University Press.
