Research

At the Department of Economic History in Lund, I investigate gender differences in academic survival and achievements by focusing on two explanatory variables that might cause a gender gap in academic output and survival. The first subject is how getting children might penalize women more than men. The second theme concerns academic relations and collaborations, specifically how co-publishing affects academic survival and achievements in the long run. As an economic historian, it is essential to know the past to understand today's patterns regarding gender differences in society and career opportunities; therefore, I prefer to put the findings in a historical context.

As a master's student, I cultivated an interest in quantitative methods and econometrics. I developed a general interest in behavioral economics and a fascination with gender differences in preferences and psychological traits. I immersed myself in differences in risk-taking and willingness to compete, two explanatory variables explored in the literature to understand gender inequality in terms of a gender gap in occupation and salary. In my thesis, I investigated if gender differences in confidence among adolescents in Sweden influenced educational choice and labor market outcomes.

I mostly use quantitative data in my research and econometric tools to analyze it; quite often, it turns out to be micro- and longitudinal data with the opportunity to examine a change over time. I also teach econometrics through labs at the department. However, methodologies are fascinating, and in the future, I would be OK with conducting experiments or collecting data through surveys.
