I have an industry background in environmental consulting-specifically chemical and microbiological monitoring with a BSc in Biomedical Science and Technologies from RMIT University-Australia and Lund University-Sweden. After this I completed an Honours Degree in Genetics at The University of Queensland (UQ) Australia researching soil microbial activity in sub-tropical soils northern Australia in relation to agricultural sustainability and GHGs. I then completed my MPhil in Microbiology, also at UQ, but this time in sub-arctic soils where I investigated connections between microbial activity, climate change and GHGs in permafrost affected peatlands in northern Sweden. For my PhD in Limnology at Uppsala University-Sweden I explored aquatic microbiology ranging from the smallest bacteria and their communities up to a (near) global survey of inland water microbiomes.
I am working in a BECC funded project (PIs: Torbern Tagesson and Patrik Vestin) examining the effectiveness of rewetting drained peatlands as a climate change mitigation strategy. I will be looking at the activity of the microbes living in the peat and how this relates to GHGs.
