Personal profile

Research

My main research focus is on cardiovascular pathophysiology in patients with diabetes, specifically focused on coronary microvascular dysfunction and acute coronary syndrome. The research line includes studies on patients with diabetes both with and without known cardiovascular disease and we also use a large animal model of infarct/reperfusion to understand the pathophysiology behind acute coronary syndrome.

To increase our understanding of the coronary microvasculature in patients with diabetes, I combine advanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging at rest and pharmacological stress as well as cellular analyses of endothelial progenitor cells cultivated from peripheral blood together with collaborators.

Our overall aim is to identify new potential therapeutic targets that prevents coronary microvascular disease from developing into coronary artery disease and thereby improving prognosis.
