Research
Sebastian Thöns works since September 2020 at the Division of Structural Engineering at Lund University. The areas of his expertise encompass:
- Value of information and decision analysis,
- Reliability, risk and resilience analysis of built environment systems,
- Building and structural health information system design and optimisation,
- Structural performance design, integrity management and optimisation,
- Laboratory and in‑situ, static and dynamic testing and monitoring.
His project portfolio encompasses research and networking, consulting, standardisation, innovation and education projects with European Union, national and industrial funds. He has chaired the scientific networking project COST Action TU1402 on Quantifying the Value of Structural Health Monitoring (see also Wikipedia).
Sebastian Thöns has provided 20+ invited lectures and keynote lectures in academia and industry. He organised and co-organised 15+ Special Sessions and Minisymposia at international conferences. He has supervised and co-supervised 10+ PhD students.
He has been awarded with the IRIS Price of Excellence in 2011 and acted as an Executive Board Member in the Les Trophées de l'Europe awarded European Marie Curie Project project Infrastar.
