Personal profile

My focus is self-harm and personality disorders. After my dissertation, my research has always addressed the problems that appear in my clinical work. One of my first interests was the ethical and clinical conflicts on psychiatric admissions for persons with repeated self-harm and traits of borderline personality disorder. There is a clear conflict between keeping a person safe, not risking suicide, and avoiding the possible iatrogenic effects of lengthy admissions. In a collaboration with researchers in the Netherlands, my group standardized the intervention Brief Admission by self-referral and are since 2015 carrying out a comprehensive multimethod evaluation. My group also have research projects on cognitive functioning, functioning in daily life, personality traits and imaging in persons with self-harm as well as a project on the development and evaluation of instruments for detecting and following self-harm.

My projects are currently funded by the Swedish Research Council, the province of Scania (Sweden) state grants (ALF), Mats Paulsson Foundation and the Lindhaga Foundation, .
