Susanna Johansson is an Associate Professor in Social Work and hold a PhD in Sociology of Law. Her primary research areas concern:

• Society’s handling of children exposed to violence
• Governance, policy diffusion, and implementation of the Barnahus model
• Social and institutional care of children and young people
• Children in custody/parental conflicts

Susanna Johansson is currently leading the interdisciplinary research project “Juridification of children’s welfare in cases of domestic violence: The reform of sheltered housing as a child‑rights dilemma” (Swedish Research Council, 2026–2029) together with Lina Ponnert and Anna Kaldal. In addition, Susanna Johansson is involved in research concerning children in custody disputes and the governance and diffusion of the Barnahus model. Theoretically, her research often relates to inter‑organizational collaboration processes as well as new forms of welfare governance and regulation, primarily drawing on a combination of socio‑legal and institutional theories, along with perspectives on power and policy research.

Susanna Johansson teaches at both the undergraduate and advanced levels within the Social Work Programme and serve as course coordinator for the elective advanced course Social Work with Children and Families: Assessments and Child Perspectives. She also works as a teacher and supervisor in the doctoral programme in social work.

Susanna Johansson is affiliated with several research networks, including the Network for Barnahus Research, Access to Justice – Europe, and Barn i föräldrakonflikt, as well as the research areas Children, Young People and Families and Professions and Organization at the School of Social Work.
