Personal profile

Susanne Frennert's expertise lies in the field of participatory design: involving older people in the design process of social robots and healthcare technologies to better match their needs, wants and desires. She is active in European Projects within the 7th framework program on systems for home health care and a Swedish national agenda on social robotics. Susanne is also involved in a project regarding 3D printing and the reminiscence method for people with mild cognitive decline. This project challenges the boundaries of what people with memory difficulties can accomplish if they get the opportunity to physically portray memories with 3D printing technologies, and the extent to which they can act as innovators in the product development process. The aim of the project is to further develop the reminiscence method, combined with the production of artifacts with 3D printing technology. Starting from a norm-critical perspective, the project will contribute to uncover attitudes that restrict older people's involvement in the design processes, enhance their innovative abilities, and develop future methods for a participatory design process using 3D printing.

Susanne has taught and worked in the fields of usability, participatory design and user centered design in Sweden and abroad. She has a BSc in Cognitive Science, an MSc in Human Factors & Ergonomics  and will defend her PhD thesis (in Rehabilitation Engineering) in 2016.
