Research

Susanne Frennert is an Associate Professor at Lund University's Department of Design Sciences and coordinates the research group in ergonomics, rehabilitation engineering and universal design. She holds degrees in Cognitive Science, Human Factors & Ergonomics and Rehabilitation Engineering. Frennert is the WP leader several major projects, including the EU-funded HARIA (Human-Robot Sensormotor Argumentation) and MAGICIAN, which focus on developing advanced robotic solutions through human-centered design. She is part of the LTH profile area: Engineering Health, emphasising the integration of engineering innovations in healthcare contexts. Additionally, Frennert serves on the boards of the Swedish Collaboration of Digital Care Research and the Centre for Ageing and Supportive Environments at Lund university.

Frennert's research interests are diverse, focusing on the conceptual and practical aspects of welfare technology, gerontechnologies and social robots. She utilises methods from co-design and human-centred design to ensure that technological solutions are tailored to the needs, wants and experiences of end-users. This approach emphasises collaboration with stakeholders to co-create technologies and technical solutions. As part of a research group on digital justice, she investigates the societal implications of digitalisation. She also participates in a project exploring the impacts of welfare technology on reskilling, deskilling and upskilling in eldercare, aiming to improve the working conditions of eldercare workers.
