I am a glacial geologist interested in processes and their rates of change in glaciated mountain environments over a range of timescales, from seasons (e.g. annual moraine formation) to decades/centuries and millennia (the Younger Dryas, 12.9-11.7 ka, in particular). I use the data gathered from modern environments (process studies) to understand changes in the past (Holocene to late Pleistocene) and gather reliable palaeoclimatic proxy data. I have worked in both mountain and lowland environments around the globe and at all spatial scales (from cirque glaciers to ice sheets). Recently, I have begun to use this expertise in more applied fields (engineering geology and hydrogeology), and I have become more engaged in the public communication of science, in particular in the fields of environmental awareness and climate change.
