Teaching

Sven currently does teaching in C++, functional programming, and mechatronics. Previous teaching includes real-time programming and compilers.

Research

Sven's research interests include open and modular languages for industrial automation, and service composition and interoperability in an industrial control and robotics setting. He is interested in the connection between high-level languages and their low-level implementation, and how that affects reusability,  deployment, and management of shared resources, with previous work including

  • Embedded real-time systems and memory management, particularily robust and flexible memory systems and adaptive garbage collection scheduling. Application areas include real-time Java for industrial robot control.
  • Real-time communication in industrial robotics and control settings, based on real-time ethernet (ThrottleNet) and self-describing communication channels (LabComm).
  • Service composition and interoperability in an industrial control and robotics setting
  • Language and programming environment aspects of end-user composition of services in pervasive systems
