Personal profile

Research

I am Professor in Neurology and Head of the Department of Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Memory Disorders and Geriatrics at Skåne University Hospitaland. My primary research focus is on cardiac arrest induced brain injury.  Translating hypothermia, Targeted Temperature Management and other neuroprotective strategies "from bench to bedside" through experimental research and clinical trials is a general aim and my own projects are mainly focused on:

1. Development and improvement of methods to diagnose brain injury during intensive care early after cardiac arrest.  Reliable protocols to determine the prognosis for meaningful recovery of neurological functions.

2. Cognitive impairment among cardiac arrest survivors - effects on quality-of-life and participation in societal activities. Models of follow-up and rehabilitation.

I have a close collaboration with intensive care, clinical neurophysiology, neuropathology, radiology and experimental brain research and I am the tutor of several PhD students within the Center for Cardiac Arrest at Lund University.
