Research
I received my Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from Lund University with the dissertation Your Cradle Is Green: The Islamic Foundation and the Call to Islam in Children's Literature (2003). I teach courses ranging across history of religions, Islamic and Middle Eastern studies, migration, gender, cultural and political studies. In research, I am involved in several fields. While retaining my interest for Muslim authorship of children’s literature, I am mainly devoted to Middle Eastern memory politics, memory culture and museum studies, particularly in Turkey, Israel and Palestine. In 2022-2025 I ran the three-year project "Beyond Sacred/Secular Cities: Exploring Politics of Memory, Space, and Religion in Middle Eastern Nationalisms" within the national Strategic Research Areas framework. Currently, I am initiating research on queer mythologies in the borderlands of folklore, devotion and art.
