Personal profile

Research

I am associate professor in private law, working as a researcher and teacher at the Faculty of Law. I received my doctorate degree in 2005 on a dissertation concerning jurisdiction in relation to cross-border internet related trademark infringements. My dissertation is cross-disciplinary and I still nourish a special interest for such problems, e.g. problems that may not be categorized under one specific subject heading. My research takes private international law as its point of departure, but it also relates to intellectual property law and/or information technology law.

As regards on-going research I’m involved in a project that relates to the understanding of private international law in its contemporary European context. This project is primarily research oriented, but there is also a pedagogic aspect. As regards research the project will highlight patterns and problems in contemporary international private law. The pedagogic contribution will be a monograph that may also be used in teaching.

Another on-going project is “innovations in law”. The purpose of this project is, among other things, to highlight that legal constructions may be innovative (as such) and to analyse and clarify what specific aspects that characterises an innovative legal rule.

Teaching

My engagement in teaching follows the same pattern as my research interests. Thus my teaching is cross-disciplinary and I’m involved as teacher in a number of subjects, still with a principal focus on international private law. At present I’m head of private international law at the faculty, which means a responsibility for teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level. I also teach at the master program in European Business Law, primarily within the realm on intellectual property law.

I also frequently teach at other universities, both in Sweden and abroad. During the fall 2016 I will teach the subject “Information Technology and the Law” at Bond university (Australia) and I will be teaching during the subject “Legal risk management and Intellectual Property Law” at Copenhagen Business School (Denmark).

I also participate in the development of teaching materials and textbooks, such as “Grundläggande immaterialrätt” [Introduction to Intellectual Property Law] (together with Ulrika Wennersten).

Outreach

Outreach is an essential part of everyday life at the academia and I try to prioritise activities that involves external actors. I usually involve practitioners in the advanced subjects that I teach and my teaching is frequently organised in collaboration with external actors. I also actively participate in relevant network activities that includes external actors. Due to the nature of my expertise and the practical nature of the subject that I teach I have the privilege to be invited as speaker both as an expert and in popular science contexts.
