Background

I obtained my BSc degree in biology from Celal Bayar University, Turkey in 2009. In 2010 I began my master education in Animal Ecology at Lund University, Sweden. During the first year of my studies I developed great interest in the field of animal behaviour and cognition. As a part of my master’s studies I conducted a research project on spatial memory accuracy in marsh tits, supervised by Anders Brodin.

Right after I received my MSc degree, I started to work as a laboratory assistant at Lund University. During this time I investigated observational spatial learning abilities in great tits and spatial memory accuracy in marsh tits and humans. In March 2015 I started my PhD under the supervision of Anders Brodin

Research Activities

I have a broad interest in cognition in passerine birds. During my PhD I will work with two small passerine species from the family Paridae: marsh tits (Poecile palustris) and great tits (Parus major). I will investigate individual differences on observational spatial memory capacities in these species. Additionally, I will investigate different cognitive abilities in great tits such as self-recognition, problem-solving, numerical competence and motor inhibition.
