Personal profile

Research

I develop useful computational models and I collaborate with wet laboratories and medical imaging experts providing data for optimising the modes and validating model predictions.

I conduct research aiming to answer questions from three different research directions:

Development

  • Does inheritance through cell division play a role in the commitment to T-cell fate?
  • What are the mechanisms controlling neural tube patterning during development?

Production of transplantable cells

  • Can neural tube patterning mechanisms reveal how to optimise the production of dopaminergic neurons?
  • How can we improve direct conversion of human skin cells to neurons and microglia? Can we study cell interactions leading to degenerative disease in the aged brain?
  • Can we identify the gene circuit governing direct reprogramming of glial cells to GABAergic neurons? Is it possible to find a way to increase the percent of PV+ and SST+ neurons obtained through this type of direct reprogramming?

Machine learning against cancer

  • Is it possible to help pathologist decide on the size and type of a tumour using machine learning and multispectral and photoacoustic imaging?
  • Can we identify tumour genes from epigenetic data using neural networks?
