Personal profile

Research

My research in aerosol technology spans from idealized laboratory studies to practical applications, and focus primarily on traffic-related air pollution, biomass combustion, and fire emissions. The research is inherently interdisciplinary and involves strong collaborative efforts with experts in toxicology and climate science to address the global sustainability challenges we face today.

The core of my research is the complex dependencies between particle generation processes and emission characteristics. My background is within experimental techniques and the research include advanced aerosol measurement tools like aerosol mass spectrometry, for example to investigate the relationships between combustion conditions and particle properties.

My research has a particular focus on understanding how particle emissions contribute to the exposure and formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In my work, we screen particle emissions by acellular quantification of ROS and Oxidative Potential in order to evaluate the relative hazard of exposure to different particle sources.

To improve air quality and reduce its detrimental effects, different research disciplines must work together. The application of advanced techniques and research on aerosol dynamics that we contribute with is an important part for air quality assessments, whether it is in ambient air, occupational settings, or other micro-environments.
