Personal profile

Research

Yue Qiu is a PhD candidate at Combustion Physics, financed by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg (KAW) grant "Towards CO2 neutral energy conversion using advanced laser diagnostics and modelling – COCALD". Her main research goal is to investigate the combustion kinetics of a new concept of CO2-free fuel, metal fuel, such as Iron (Fe), and Aluminium (Al). Currently micron-sized fuel particles are investigated under hot oxidizer atmosphere. Different sub-projects are listed in the following:

  • Development of a physical and chemical model for iron particle combustion in MATLAB.
  • A physical and chemical model of iron particle combustion within the framework of Lagrangian Particle Tracking (LPT) in OpenFOAM.
  • Development of a physical and chemical model for Al particle combustion within the framework of Lagrangian Particle Tracking (LPT) in OpenFOAM.
  • Modeling of micron-sized aluminum particle combustion in hot gas flow within the Eulerian framework in OpenFOAM.
  • A review of gas phase Al combustion mechanism.

Besides research work, Yue Qiu is also involved as a lab supervisor for courses aimed at undergraduate students in the department of physics, which include:

  • Quantum physics lab of the course FYSA13 (Introduction to University Physics, with Optics, Waves and Quantum Physics)
  • Methodology lab of the course FAFA76 Energy and Envionmental Physics
  • Spectroscopy lab of the course FYSB24/ÄFYD14 - Physics: Atomic and Molecular Physics.
