A comparative study of teachers’ work in the privatised educational contexts of England, Sweden and Chile

Project Details

Description

U21 Teachers’ work is changing, largely as a result of the highly marketised and privatised education systems in which they are now employed. These transformations to the context of professional work are significant in terms of both the pace and scale of reform. In fact, although culturally, politically and historically distinct nation states, policies of privatisation in education have been particularly evident in England, Chile and Sweden. Yet, despite an apparent ideological consensus globally, the processes of privatisation are complex and their outcomes are not well understood. There is therefore a need for comparative, context-sensitive research which explores the influence of privatisation on teachers’ work across a range of national contexts.
