The Internet has turned established notions of capture, storage, production and distribution of knowledge upside down. The changes are fundamental and has a huge impact on a field loaded with ideology loaded, as history is. The Internet is today perhaps the most vibrant arena for historical production and uses of history. The way which the past is given meaning and the way in which past, present and future are tied together is also under constant renegotiation in the blogosphere, on Wikipedia or on political extremists websites.
The project aims to analyze how this digital history branches, how the perception of what actually happened, what is true and false, changes with the Internet. The fact thta each an everyone becomes their own historians online does indeed represent a kind of democratization but is also a problem in so far that the claims of the past are not tested or verified to the same extent as before.
