A journey on the ground: Rethinking aeromobile practices in the wake of climate change

Project Details

My PhD research is part of the FORMAS funded research project "The takeoff of staying on the ground" which studies the rising cultural shift in Sweden to reduce flying. In my research, I explore how narratives associated with avoiding air travel for climate change reasons have emerged, evolved, and spread during the last years. I focus particularly on the rise of a social movement to reduce flying and its role in the transition to a sustainable society. The aim with my research is to enhance the understanding for how this form of collective mobilization around low-carbon ways of living challenges high-carbon norms and practices and enables social and cultural change.
